Mid Carolina Credit Union (MCCU) is proud to support the efforts of our student-members in their striving for advancement in education. We are dedicated to providing financial wellness opportunities for youth and adults in the communities we serve. MCCU’s definition of financial wellness is having the knowledge and skills to develop financial goals, budget, manage debt, save, invest, and maintain good credit. Since 2005, Mid Carolina Credit Union has made scholarship money available to graduating high school seniors through our MCCU Education Scholarship Program. The Credit Union awards four (4) one-time paid scholarships of $500 each.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement, extracurricular activities/community service, work experience and evidence of financial responsibility. To be eligible, a potential applicant must be a primary member of MCCU, meaning he/she has an account in his/her name. This account needs to be established on or before February 28, 2024. Other requirements are:

• Complete the MCCU Scholarship Application, including requested documents

  • Essay, 300-500 words on given topic

  • Two Reference Letters

  • School Transcript

• Complete the Banzai Teen financial course on the MCCU website within the Banzai financial wellness center between 12/1/23 and 2/28/24

• Complete the Banzai Teen course Post-Test with a score of 80% or higher

• Applicant must be a primary member of Mid Carolina Credit Union. If not, join by application deadline.

• Be a graduating High School Senior (at time of entry)

• Be college-bound in the fall of 2024

• Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

• Submit entry or have postmarked no later than February 28, 2024.

Please Note: Due to the high volume of applications received, only winning applicants will be contacted. Scholarship winners will be notified and announced on MCCU’s social media and website by May 1st.

*One submission per person. By submitting an entry to the Mid Carolina Credit Union Education Scholarship, you are certifying that you are a senior in high school and give permission for your name to be published as a winner of the contest. Winners will be notified by phone, mail, and/or email before May 1, 2024. If you are selected as a winner, please remain in contact with MCCU, winners are asked to attend the credit union's annual members meeting to be recognized.

*Open and offered to legal residents of the United States (US) and currently enrolled as a high school senior student (Grade 12) as of February 28, 2024 in an accredited high school or alternative schooling program that will award the equivalent of a high school diploma as designated by their state, and must be enrolled in a two- or four-year US college before August 31, 2024. The scholarship entry period begins at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time (EST) on December 1, 2023 and ends at 11:59 p.m. EST on February 28, 2024. Odds of winning are dependent on number of submissions. A panel of judges consisting of MCCU staff, board members and district teachers will review entries and determine winners. Mid Carolina is not responsible for lost or misdirected mail. All submitted materials become the property of Mid Carolina.
