MCCU names Dean Scarborough as new CEO
Mid Carolina Credit Union Board of Directors has appointed Dean Scarborough as its new chief executive officer, following the resignation of former CEO David Mooney in May. Scarborough, who has served at the credit union for 18 years, most recently as vice president of lending, now leads the $172 million-asset institution.
“After an extensive search, the board is excited to have Dean as the CEO of Mid Carolina Credit Union,” said Dennis Arledge, chairman of the board. “Dean has been a part of the Mid Carolina team for 18 years, and we are eager to see what the future holds under his leadership.”
Scarborough expressed his gratitude for the role and looks forward to leading the credit union’s future efforts.
“I am honored and thankful to have been selected and entrusted with this role by the board of directors,” Scarborough said. “I look forward to leading Mid Carolina Credit Union into the future, delivering on our mission, and making an immediate positive difference for our employees, members, partners, and communities.”
He emphasized Mid Carolina’s foundational philosophy of “people helping people” and the importance of the institution’s local presence.
“Being a local financial institution gives us the ability to connect with our members and develop strong relationships,” Scarborough said. “The employees of MCCU are the heart and soul of this organization, and I’m excited to collaborate with such a passionate, talented, and committed team.”
In addition to his role at Mid Carolina, Scarborough serves on the board of the Managers Association of the Carolinas Credit Unions and is an active member of the Kershaw County Kiwanis Club. He is also a certified instructor with the National Sporting Clays Association.
Scarborough earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Francis Marion College and is a graduate of the Carolinas Credit Union League’s Leadership Development Institute.
“Dean has many great ideas for continuing MCCU’s history of growth and exceptional member service,” Arledge said. “His unique vision and drive will be critical in finding new ways to serve our membership and meet their financial needs.”
Mid Carolina Credit Union, founded in 1961 to serve employees of the Dupont May Plant, has expanded to include anyone who lives, works, or attends school in Kershaw or Richland County. Today, the credit union operates four branches with over 40 employees, offering a safe and sound financial alternative to its members. Accounts are insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration.
